eBay does not accept bids higher or equal to BIN price. Your snipe must be lower than that (54.98 or less).
I know it's a weird eBay rule, but this is how they set it.

That stinks... I never knew that- I just grabbed a number at random. way higher than the current bid. very disappointing. I guess I need to be more careful. or do I recall a notice before saying your snipe was higher than the BIN price?

The notice will not make sense anyway since the BIN price can disappear when bidding is high enough depending on the category. In this case you could snipe higher than BIN price.
