My Status: Your snipe was too low due to eBay's bid increment system

I had a snipe for $35.09 and item sold for $35. What does this mean? I needed to be $35.50 or $36?
Sad but guessing someone would have knocked it higher past my highest bid anyway

Yes, the next acceptable bid amount is $36 ($35 + $1).
That $1 is called bid increment.
