I'm not sure why the sniper did not pick this up as the final price was far below my snipe and I did not manually bid anything.
The current bid was higher on last seconds of the listing, so your bid was rejected by eBay.
Then the higher bid was retracted.
That looks fishy for me. I would contact eBay and suggest to disallow last seconds bid retractions to avoid such issues.
You can tell them that you would bid higher, but your bid was not accepted because of that higher bidder whose bid was retracted on the last second.
