That message could because of the following two reasons:
1. Your firewall is blocking connections of myibay software.
2. Your password is invalid or too weak.

The best way to check is to do a test:
Click Options - Settings - Diagnostic - Network test.

You should see something similar to that:
Code: Select All
Version: 1.0.35
System: Windows
Platform: Windows-XP-5.1.2600-SP3
Username: your-ebay-user-id
Initializing.. passed
Connecting...passed
Checking IP.. your-ip
Login.. passed

We are interested in the lines "Connecting..." and "Login..." here.

1. If you see "Connecting... FAILED", that means that your Firewall is blocking your outgoing connections.
2. If you see "Login.. FAILED", that means that your password was not accepted.

I'll describe each problem separately below.

Depending your Firewall software you have to allow myibay software to make outgoing connections.
Sometimes it's called "Exception list" where you can specify an executable file which is allowed to make outgoing connections.
Myibay software is located here by default:
c:\program files\myibay\myibay.exe
or (if you have x64-bit Windows):
c:\program files (x86)\myibay\myibay.exe

Here is an example on how to do it using firewall which is built-in into Windows XP:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/security/winfirewall.mspx
Check Add a Windows Firewall exception section.

If you have some other Firewall software and not sure how to configure it, please let me know and I'll try to find out for you.

eBay put higher password requirements in order to protect your account's password from being guessed by someone else.

For example, dictionary passwords are not good:
library, password, castle...

Digits-only passwords are not good either:
112233, 12345678, 1000000

Passwords which contain your user id are not good as well:
login: john, password: johnny

I would suggest to strengthen your password not just for myibay, but for your own protection in the future.
If you have a dictionary word, just adding a few digits is a good and simple thing to do.

Here is a link I found on Symantec website regarding Norton 360 Firewall feature:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/norton360.nsf/0/c7cddb1ba72b95036525736800684073?OpenDocument

Scroll down to Configure Firewall Program Rules section there.
They used Yahoo messenger as an example, but you have to put myibay path in there:
c:\program files\myibay\myibay.exe

I'm getting a failed login at the diagnostic. I've correctly inputed my username and password and have double checked it in my browser and re typed it numerous times.

Your password may be too weak and you may need to change it to something more secure.
Please check this forum thread for more information:

donnah3737,
If it's still said "Connecting... FAILED", that means that your Firewall is still blocking the connection.

You may want to temporary disable it and try again. If it works, then you have to check how to configure your Firewall in order to pass this connection.

Firefox browser should not affect Myibay Windows-based application connection.

donnah3737,
If you have Windows Firewall, it can be disabled in Control Panel (Control Panel - Windows Firewall).
If you have some other Firewall software, you may want to check withe its documentation for more information.

As another option, you can either try another PC or use the Web-based interface to login:

donnah3737,
I guess you have some other Firewall enabled somewhere additionally to Windows Firewall which is not allowing Myibay software to connect.
I don't have any control over your PC so I can't really do anything, but suggest to ask someone who knows how to manage Firewall settings on your PC.

As I mentioned before, you can try to use either another PC (to see if the issue is on your local PC only) or Web-based interface.

If you can get to the forums, it's not a restriction on your router or ISP. If your browser can do it, the application should do it unless your network rules are different for it.

As suggested above, please provide the output from Diagnostic window to get a better idea.

I have connection and initialization in the test box, but it still fails to connect... I am logged into ebay on my computer but my ibidder program will not connect to ebay... I have triple checked the login info and it is correct...I don't believe its a password issue either, I have a strong one...

lostcowboyrob,
Why do you bring up a 7 years old topic? It's not even related.
If you need to reset your sniper's password, please do it using the reset link.
